We, Mekong Peace Journey, a network of civil society organizations and young generations of the Mekong countries, stand with the youth and people of Myanmar in a peaceful way to demand justice and fight against dictatorship. We condemn the Burmese military action at the dawn of 1 February 2021 for orchestrating the coup and arresting leading political figures who are elected by the Myanmar people while calling it a “one-year state of emergency.” Such hostile action only emphasizes the military’s insincerity to the democratic process in Myanmar and the people’s participation. The COVID-19 pandemic has already been hurting the everyday lives of the people all over the Mekong region for over a year. The coup is only making the situation harsher for the people to participate in peaceful and sustainable development. We stand with the pro-democracy movement to demand an immediate release of all detained persons especially youth and students and respect to the election results.
Peace Against Dictatorship.
